Taxonomic notes. Synonymy follows Kullander et al. (1999:<br />

137).<br />

Nomenclatural notes. Menon & Yazdani (1968: 124) listed<br />

6 syntypes <strong>of</strong> N. punjabensis (ZSI F 10348) collected on<br />

16 July 1922 by Hora in 'stream below Watta Hills, salt range,<br />

Punjab'. Although this locality data is not in agreement with<br />

Hora's original data, they do not provide explanation.<br />

Taxonomic notes. Usually listed as a subspecies or synonym<br />

<strong>of</strong> S. kessleri, which geographical distance and isolation in<br />

Kottelat: <strong>Conspectus</strong> <strong>cobitidum</strong><br />

widely disjunct endorheic basins, on either side <strong>of</strong> the Hindu<br />

Kush range, make unlikely.<br />
