Taxonomic notes. Generic placement follows Tang et al.<br />

(2008).<br />

2.7 Syncrossus Blyth, 1860<br />

Syncrossus Blyth, 1860: 166 (type species: Syncrossus berdmorei<br />

Blyth, 1860: 166, by subsequent designation by<br />

Jordan & Fowler, 1903: 772 ["Schistura grandis apud<br />

McClelland" qualifies as a deliberate application <strong>of</strong> a<br />

previous (mis)identification, Code art. 67.2.1, and therefore<br />

two species are included; Cobitis (Schistura) grandis<br />

in M'Clelland, 1839: 307, 444 in fact is a new combination<br />

<strong>of</strong> Botia grandis Gray, 1832: vol. 1, pl. 94 fig. 3;<br />

"apud" means "in an author"). Gender masculine.<br />

Nomenclatural notes. See under Botia Gray, 1831 for discussion<br />

<strong>of</strong> Hymenphysa M'Clelland, 1839 and Hymenophysa<br />

Bleeker, 1858, erroneously used for the present genus.<br />
