The mission of the Gesglfse Sup;Lg' Company is t o opermss I11 distributint and bulk reduotion points for the supply and issue of gasoline, oil and lubricants to the using forces. It was the operatink base of Class I11 suyply in the European Theater of <strong>Operations</strong>, both in the Communications Zone and in the Combat Eone.3 It operated ht beachheads, truckheads, rpilheads, gipeline terminals, exid airfields. St also establishea roadside fillin& stations .3 238. Orr.anization.1 a. The Gasoline Sup,dy Company is a flexible orLanization, oomposed of a company liendquarters and tido operating platoons. Each ylatoon can operate inaependently. A total of 56 laborers are provided for handline. b. There are 21 truoks, 2A-toa oargo and trailers arganio in the company for hauling gasoline a d allied proaucts.. The following teohnical equipment is organic to the coupany: 12 - extinauishers, fire, oarbon-dioxide, permanent sl!ut-off 1.5 pounds 1 - oleaning equipaent, bun, gasoline, engine driven - tanks, colla&ble, 3,000 gallon capacity, for r;et,rolew products 3200 - cans, gasoline, five gallons 4. - pumps, gasoline dispensikg, 100 gallons per minute 4 - p~mp~, Eaooline dispensing, 30 gallons per ninute 4 - pumps, barrel, kerosene or gasoline, with hose and nozzle 8 - pumps, barrel, oil dispensing Q. Experience proved the organic fire figlitiw equipment to be inadequate, unless used imclediately at the start of a fire. Once the Pire wa8 w ell started, the limit$ ran e and core of effectiveness of the extinguisher rendered it reffitjively useless, while the danger to using personnel was correspondingly hlgh.5 239.
