BACKGROUND
Many Peruvians have started their own businesses and it looks like the direct selling
industry is doing very well there helping to reduce poverty in the land. Peru had been
suffering economic problems for many years, under military rule that restricted imports and
exports to and from the country for many years. However, since 2001, the economy has
been growing by an average of 6 percent per year.
