, The report on Foreign Correspondence was prepared by M. "W. Bro.<br />

Alfred H. Burton. Eeviewing Louisiana he deems the Addresses on<br />

the reception of Grand Eepresentatives as somewhat figurative, '' not to<br />

say flowery.''<br />

The report of the Grand Treasurer, E. W. Bro. H. C. Tewsley, shows<br />

the remarkable increase in cash balances since last year was £2,495 2s 3d.<br />

Inquiry having been made of the authorities of the Grand Lodge<br />

of England as to its rules respecting physical qualifications a reply<br />

was received from the Grand Secretary of that Grand Lodge to the effect<br />

that a Candidate was considered eligible who could comply with and go<br />

through the various ceremonies required in the different degrees. "Bach<br />

case of this description must be decided on its own merits by the members<br />

of the Lodge to whom the Candidate is personally known, subject to the<br />

investigation and approval of the Master of the Lodge, who is, of course,<br />

officially responsible that the Candidate was in a condition to comply<br />

with the above-named requirements."<br />

The matter of the initiation of a "Lewis, "that is the son of a<br />

Master Mason, being eligible for initiation at the age of eighteen. The<br />

Board of General Purposes noted that it was contended by some authorities<br />

that the young man must have been born the son of a Master<br />

Mason, that is that the father was a Master Mason at the time of his<br />

birth.<br />

The question of taking out accident insurance policies in favor of<br />

the officers of Grand Lodge during performance of official duties was<br />

considered, but the subject was dropped.<br />

The Grand Master, M. "W. Bro. Christopher James Whitney Griffiths,<br />

reported in his Address that the year past had been '' one of peaceful,<br />

steady, and uninterrupted progress, both numerically and financially.''<br />

The returns of Lodges showed a membership of 11,472, a net gain<br />

of 713.<br />

The report on Correspondence was again the work of M. W. Bro.<br />

Alfred H. Burton. His review of Louisiana is full. He notes that the<br />

Address of Grand Master Thomas evinced "a considerable amount of<br />

hard work.''<br />

NOBTH CAROLINA, 1911.<br />

The Grand Master, M. W. Bro. Eichard N. Hackett, reports in this<br />

wise on the condition of the Craft:<br />

"In making this, my annual report for this Grand Jurisdiction, it is<br />

a pleasure to state that Masonry is still moving forward in the march<br />

of progress, and though the past one has not been a record year in<br />

point of gain in membership and new Lodges; yet, in many parts of<br />

our state there has been such enthusiasm and such a fraternal revival<br />

that the Lodges are far behind in the work of receiving the numbers<br />

of splendid men who are knocking at their doors. The spirit of Masonry,<br />

too, has, to a great extent, prevailed, and though a very few instances
