ON FOREIGN CORRESPONDENCE. 69
Fellows meeting in the same rooms in which a Masonic Lodge meets.
We are greatly surprised. Is a Lodge of Odd Fellows in any sense a
Masonic Body?
The report on Correspondence was prepared by Brother James M.
Lamberton. In his review of Louisiana he remarks that your Committee
had a large contract awarded it upon its own request in the matter of
inquiring concerning conditions of Grand Lodges in foreign lands. The
Committee was only reporting for consideration certain resolutions referred
to it.
Brother Lamberton seems to dissent from a resolution prohibiting
the convening of a Lodge during the communication of the Grand Lodge.
We are surprised for we had thought that the ancient regulation that a
Lodge could not be convened in the absence of its Master and Wardens
was in force in Pennsylvania. And also the further ancient regulation
that it is the duty of the Master and Wardens to attend Grand Lodge.
Brother Lamberton wonders what would happen in the case of a brother
who should die during the convocation of the Grand Lodge; and remarks
that as he understands it he could not have a Masonic burial. We would
ask if he could have a Masonic burial at any time in the absence of the
Master and Wardens of his Lodge? Should a Brother of one of our
Lodges die during the convocation of our Grand Lodge we can inform
Brother Lamberton what we think ought to happen. The Master would
state the case before the Grand Lodge as a matter of personal privilege
and ask that either himself or one of his Wardens be excused from attendance
in order that he might return to the domicile of his Lodge; there
open it; and proceed to the burial of the Brother deceased. And we
have not the slightest doubt that leave would be granted him.
Brother Lamberton corrects a statement made by us in our report
of two years since. We stated that the Grand Master had spoken of certain
warrants issued by the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania to Lodges in
Foreign Parts. The statement of the Grand Master was not to action
by the "Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania," but by the Provincial Grand
Lodge of Pennsylvania. Hence our further remarks in respect to the
Address of the then Grand Master were founded on an error, and for
the sake of historical accuracy we desire to withdraw them.
PRINCE EDWAKD ISLAND, 1910-1911.
On opening the pamphlet of Proceedings we are greeted by the
portrait of "M. W. Bro. W. P. Doull, Grand Master, 1909. Grand Secretary,
1910."
The Grand Master reported on the condition of the Craft as follows:
'' Generally speaking the Craft is in excellent condition. The Grand
Secretary's report will show our membership the highest ever, similarly
our year's receipts, as also our increase in membership. Good work is
being done—and done well—and peace and harmony everywhere prevail"
