70 PROCEEDINGS OF THE GRAND LODGE
On May 17th, I accepted the resignation of Brother Otis W.
Bullock, W. M., of Simsboro Lodge No. 235, on account of his
removal from the Jurisdiction.
On June 5th, unable to be present at the dedication of the
Masonic Lodge at Vivian, I requested P. G. M. L. E. Thomas
to proceed to that place and represent me on that occasion. As
usual, M. W. Brother Thomas responded with alacrity, and accompanied
by Brother A. W. Cheesman, D. D. G. M., and
Worshipful Brother A. Kerley of Shreveport, he proceeded to
Vivian and there dedicated the Lodge according to the ceremonies
of our Order. Upon that occasion, Brother Thomas delivered
in his usual forceful manner a suitable address on the
subject of Masonry. Brother Thomas is eloquent in his praises
Paris, Texas.
On June 8th, I declined to Millerton Lodge No. 245, F. & A.
M., the permission to solicit funds by circular letter to the
several Lodges in this Grand Jurisdiction for the purpose of
aiding in rebuilding their Temple.
On June 22nd, I declined to Sarepta Lodge No. 222, at Sarepta,
La., a like permission.
I did not deem it advisable, for the best interests of the
Fraternity, to consent to such solicitation, as it would establish
a precedent which has been denied before to other Lodges
either directly or indirectly, a precedent, which, if established,
would lead to considerable abuse and would be detrimental in
the end. I consider that the sacrifices made by the membership
