84 PROCEEDINGS OP THE GRAND LODGE
Its membership has steadily increased; its work deserves the
commendation of all lovers of Masonry, as the personnel of that
Lodge is far above that of the ordinary. Their Masonic spirit
evidences itself upon all occasions. . It displays itself not only
Masonically, but is manifest in all things which concern the
public weal. Their example is one which is deserving of emulation.
On July 21st, I proceeded to the little town of Mitchell and
there dedicated, in the presence of a large public gathering, the
Lodge room occupied.by the Brethren. I believe this was the
largest public gathering I had the pleasure of, addressing, and
I spoke to them upon the beauties of Masonry for over an hour.
After the services we gathered in the large grove, where we were
served with all sorts of delicacies. This affair was inded a most
enjoyable one, and I am pleased to thank my good Brother 0. F.
Moore for the hospitality of his home on that occasion. I want
also to remember my efficient D. D. R. W. John "W. Taylor, and
Brother W. C. Cox of Sabine No. 75, who accompanied me on
that occasion.
Temple erected by Doric Lodge No. 205. This is a beautiful
building of the Doric style, costing, I am told, some five thousand
dollars. I was never so much impressed with a building
as I was with this beautiful little Temple. -It seems to me that
the Brethren can better propagate the true principles of Masonry
and impress more favorably its special beauties in a little Temple
whose architecture harmonizes so well with the excellencies
of our Institution. The voice of Masonry reaches the heart of
the Fraternity more deeply where the echo is reverberated by
congenial surroundings. After the ceremonies light refreshments
were served, and it was with regret that we were compelled
to hasten our departure for Lake Charles on the same
night.
On September 14th, replying to an invitation extended to me
by the public authorities of the Parish of Calcasieu, with my
official family I proceeded to Lake Charles, and there, in the
presence Of an immense gathering, I laid the corner stone of
