Brother Gorham was active in all of the York Eite Constituent<br />

and Grand Bodies and at the time of his death was<br />

Past Eminent Commander of Malta Commandery No. 12, King<br />

of the Grand Chapter and M. I. Grand Master of the Grand<br />

Council of Louisiana.<br />

He was Grand Senior Deacon of this Grand Lodge in 1908<br />

and District Deputy over" the Lodges in Southwestern Calcasieu<br />

in 1910, and had been reappointed for the year 1911,<br />

when I was apprised of the fact of his death. He entered into<br />

eternal rest on the 18th of March, 1911, at the ripe age of<br />

73 years. •<br />

William W. Leake was born in St. Francisville during the<br />

year 1833. He received his early education in the common<br />

schools, later studying at Centenary College in this State. His<br />

first business employment was as agent of the West Feliciana<br />

Railroad at Bayou Sara. Later taking up the study of law,<br />

he was admitted to practice on the 9th of November, 1856. At<br />

the outbreak of the war he enlisted in the Confederate service<br />

. as a captain and served from September, 1861, to May, 1865.<br />

Resuming the practice of his profession, which was extensive<br />

and lucrative, he became Judge of the Court of Appeals and<br />

acted in this capacity from 1896 to 1904. He passed away at<br />

his home on Saturday, the 20th of January of this year, in the<br />

79th year of his age.<br />

He was made a Mason in Feliciana Lodge No. 31 during the<br />

year 1854. We find him Junior Warden in 1855, Secretary in<br />

1856, and Master in 1867 and 1868. He was District Deputy<br />

Grand Master in 1871 and 1872 and Grand Junior Warden of<br />

this Grand Lodge in 1882. He was active in Capitular Masonry,<br />

having been exalted in Bayou Sara Chapter No. 11, shortly<br />

after the close of the war. He filled with credit the various<br />

official stations and was High Priest of the Chapter in 1874 and<br />

1875. He was Grand Master of the 3rd Veil in 1878 and Grand<br />

Scribe in 1873 and 1874. At the time of his death he was the<br />

second oldest member of his Lodge, the fifty-fifth anniversary of<br />

his Masonic connection being celebrated by the Lodge with<br />

.fitting ceremonies. He was a model citizen and an ardent<br />

Mason and his death was a loss to the Fraternity.
