The skull lacks all four occipital bones, and the periotics and tympanies of<br />

each <strong>si</strong>de; otherwise it is in good condition.<br />

Type not de<strong>si</strong>gnated by number, but by referring to Baird's IVIammals of<br />

North America, 1857, page 493, it is seen that the rrieasurements given in the<br />

original description apply to No. 554 only, with corresponding skull number<br />

1676, which consequently is con<strong>si</strong>dered the type.<br />
