The skull lacks all four occipital bones, and the periotics and tympanies of
each side; otherwise it is in good condition.
Type not designated by number, but by referring to Baird's IVIammals of
North America, 1857, page 493, it is seen that the rrieasurements given in the
original description apply to No. 554 only, with corresponding skull number
1676, which consequently is considered the type.
