Specimen once mounted and on exhibition, then packed away in storage, but<br />
taken out March 31, 1902. It is in fair condition for an old specimen, evidently<br />
bleached. It had no skull in<strong>si</strong>de, nor is there any record of one.<br />
Peale speaks of but one specimen, a male, and un(iuestionabIy it is No. o9fil,<br />
catalogued as PtcropuK mncklotil Temminck from ]\Iang<strong>si</strong>.<br />

Skin with wings spreail and wing-nienihranes torn in jilaces. Skin of head<br />
badly torn and mutilated, probably due to a clumsy extraction of the skull,<br />
which has been lost. Right ear mis<strong>si</strong>ng.<br />
There is very little doul)t that the above is the type. The de.scription is based<br />
upon a <strong>si</strong>ngle specimen collected by the U. S. Explormg Expedition from the<br />
Samoan Islands.
