New J(n-sey. Skin catalogued Februarv^ 26, 1856; skull, June, 1857.<br />

Locality unknown. Baird savs, "No locality was as<strong>si</strong>gned, but<br />

the animal is undoubtedly North American, probably from the New<br />

England <strong>States</strong> or New York; pos<strong>si</strong>bly from Iowa or Minnesota."<br />

Dr. C. 11. Merriam (Proc. Biol. Soc. Wash., VII, 1892. p. 177)<br />

thinks it not unlikely that the specimen came from southern New<br />

Y^ork or northern New Jersey.<br />

The specimen i- little more than a hall of fur. Head, legs (except one fore-<br />

leg detached), and tail are lacking. The skull is in hetter condition. With the<br />

exception of the left zygoma the facial parts are complete and perfect, and the<br />

frontal, [)arietal, and most of the squamosal of the right <strong>si</strong>de are present. The<br />

left half of the mandible has the angular and coronoid processes broken away,<br />

while the right half has the condyloid broken off as well.<br />

trace of which can now be found. Adult male. Nulato, Alaska.<br />

February, 1867. Collected by Dr. W. H. Dall. Catalogued Octo-<br />

ber 22, 1872; skeleton April 28, 1891.<br />

All of the skeleton is present and in good condition; skull not (piitc ])erfect;<br />

right malar absent; a piece out of the supraoccipital and both coronoid i)rocesses<br />

of manilible more or less broken.
