ern part of California. Sent to Dr. II. Allen l)y Dr. J. G. Cooper,<br />

of the California Academy of Sciences. It was not catalogued until<br />

April 27, 1898.<br />

As Dr. H. Allen remarks In the original description, the specimen is in poor<br />

condition. The skin of the head has been split open in order to take out the<br />

skull; most of the hair has sloughed from the back.<br />

No typi' de<strong>si</strong>gnated. It was unitiue at the time of the description. The above<br />

has always been regarded as the specimen that Dr. II. Allen had and answers to<br />

his description in so far as condition is concerned. It bears an original label<br />

marked "Atalapha telioti.^, Cal. Acad. V. S."<br />
