Type-locality.—Probably southern Oregon.<br />

The specimen should be in the <strong>Museum</strong>, w ith other U. S. Explorin}^ Expedition<br />

material, but nothing is known of it. Cas<strong>si</strong>n, L'. 8. Explor. Exped. Mannn.<br />

anti Oruitii., 1858, says specimens are in Academy of Natural Sciemes, Philadel-<br />

phia, and in <strong>National</strong> <strong>Museum</strong> and mentions it in list on page 424.<br />

Tlu! following quotation from Miller, loc rit., p. 77, is the reason for «"on<strong>si</strong>der-<br />

ing this specimen the type:<br />

" Ti/pe-hx-alifi/.—Not stated, and no type de<strong>si</strong>gnated. In the original dc'^crij)-<br />

tion specimens are mentioned from the upper Missouri River and the Paciiic<br />

coast from Puget Sound to Cape St. Lucas. Monterey, Cal. (one of the locali-<br />

ties given), may be selected as the type locality."<br />

No. 5389 is the only specimen from Monterey, and Monterey having lieen<br />

chosen as the tyi)e-locality, .5889 should be con<strong>si</strong>dered as the type. The specimen<br />

can nowhere be found in the collection.<br />
