TERMINOLOGY<br />

A. b. c. Assez-bien conserve—An expression which<br />

often occurs in foreign numismatic catalogues, and<br />

which constitutes a matter of taste or opinion.<br />

Agonistic, adj.—Connected with the public games of<br />

Greece. The prize-money awarded to victors.<br />

Agonoihetes—An officer sometimes named on the<br />

ancient Phrygian money in connection with the public<br />

games.<br />

Aigrei, or heroii's crest—An almost invariable ad-<br />

junct on the heads of the Waiwodes of Transylvania.<br />

Alliance coins—Money struck by the Greeks pur-<br />

suant to a concordat between two or more cities, either<br />

for mercantile convenience or under some political<br />

emergency. (See Head, Historia Numorwm, lxxvii.)<br />

We have monev of the Italian and Achaean Leagues,<br />

which were of political origin, and other currency com-<br />
