PROFINET: distributed field devices to <strong>Industrial</strong> Ethernet<br />
With PROFINET, distributed field devices (so-called IO devices,<br />
e.g. signal modules) can be directly connected to <strong>Industrial</strong><br />
Ethernet. During configuration with STEP 7, these field devices<br />
are assigned to a central controller (so-called IO Controller).<br />
Existing modules or devices can continue to be used with<br />
PROFINET-capable interfaces or links, thus safeguarding the<br />
investment of PROFIBUS users.<br />
An IO Supervisor is used for HMI and diagnostic functions, as for<br />
PROFIBUS, using hierarchic diagnostic screens (overview and<br />
detailed diagnostics).<br />
The following <strong>SIMATIC</strong> products are available for PROFINET for<br />
integrating distributed field devices:<br />
