PROFINET: Modularization and distributed intelligence<br />

PROFINET supports distributed automation on the basis of<br />

Component based Automation - the modular solution for<br />

machine and plant construction within the context of Totally<br />

Integrated Automation. Alongside PROFINET, PROFIBUS is also<br />

integrated into this solution.<br />

PROFINET defines the engineering model (design and construction<br />

of the PROFINET components) and communication<br />

between components.<br />

With STEP 7, reusable, intelligent technology modules are created<br />

including the definition of their interfaces for exchanging<br />

data with other modules. <strong>SIMATIC</strong> iMap is used for configuration<br />

of the complete system by graphically linking the individual<br />

modules as well as simple diagnostics.<br />

The following <strong>SIMATIC</strong> products are available for PROFINET and<br />

distributed intelligence:<br />
