LIFELONG Aslı Özge 2013 / TURKEY, GERMANY, NETHERLANDS Ela, a dancer/actress whose career is stalled, and Can, her architect husband, live in an Istanbul suburb. They seem to lead an idyllic life. But when their daughter leaves for ankara to study, they find themselves in a risky face-off, which falters when Ela stumbles on her husband making a secret phone call. Lifelong, the second film by this Turkish director after the highly acclaimed Men on the Bridge, draws a raw portrait of the Istanbul bourgeoisie, horridly concerned about appearances. Favouring blue and grey tones in a cold, modern interior with an oppressive transparency, aslı Özge uses all her directorial talents in a film that recalls antonioni.
