Les ApACHes
Thierry de peretti
2013 / FRANCE
Corsica /deep south / summer: While
thousands of tourists invade the beaches,
campgrounds, and clubs, five teenagers
from Porto Vecchio are hanging out. One
evening, one of them leads the others to
an unoccupied luxury villa. They spend the
night there. Before they leave, they steal
a few objects of no value and two prize
rifles. When the house owner arrives from
Paris, she complains about the theft to a
small local boss…
The director has made an incandescent
first film that will break through the
picture-postcard veneer of Corsica, with
this portrait of highly charged youth,
thanks to the remarkable performances of
the entire cast.
Claire Denis
2013 / FRANCE, GERMANY
Marco Silvestri must rush back to Paris.
His sister Sandra is at a complete loss:
her husband committed suicide, and her
daughter is at loose ends. Sandra is sure
that the businessman Edward Laporte is
responsible for the suicide. Marco decides
to investigate, not imagining that Sandra
might be withholding the truth...
With a Series B film noir plotline and the
languid melody of Tindersticks, Claire
Denis offers a sensual, hypnotic film, with
its opaquely beguiling, elliptical narrative,
in which Chiara Mastroianni and Vincent
Lindon indulge in a pure ballet of bodies
and feelings.
2013 / FRANCE
When their mother falls ill, her three sons
fall into the throes of midlife crisis. One
falls in love with an actress, and has just
one desire: to do away with the bourgeois
order he finds himself settled into. His
extramarital immorality contaminates
his younger brother, who had been living
quite happily with his girlfriend Patoche.
The eldest son, the perfect embodiment
of reason, remains untouched by the
midnight demon.
This bold and irreverent ensemble film
is a clever allegory about midlife crisis,
a comedy with a trio of actors whose
comic talent does not preclude intelligent
observations.
