2010 / BELGIUM
Traveling on the road to the Carnaval du
Monde, a small band decides to extend
their journey through the woods. During
their trek, they continue their revelry,
enjoying the gaiety and the more somber
moments. But during the trip, alliances
are formed and in the end, the clan
comes apart.
Both sophomoric and melancholy, funny
and dramatic, the film combines reality
TV and a melancholic tale of utopia and
dreams of community. An unclassifiable
cinematographic object, Jérôme Le Maire’s
film is an “inward-looking road movie”
about the midlife crisis.
Abdellatif Kechiche
2012 / FRANCE, BELGIUM, SPAIN
At 15, there is no question for Adele: girls
go out with boys. Her life changes when
she meets Emma, a young woman with
blue hair, who introduces her to desire and
allows her to accept herself as a woman
and an adult. Under the gaze of others,
Adele grows, searches, forgets, and finds
herself again...
With its passionate love story strained
by social differences, Abdellatif Kechiche
has made a breathtakingly natural film
about the first time and about heartache.
Acclaimed by critics, Blue Is the Warmest
Color is enhanced by two glowingly
intrepid young actresses who were
awarded an exceptional Golden Palm.
A star past her prime, Robin Wright is
forced to accept the offer of a powerful
Hollywood studio. She sells her image,
leaving a digital double to continue her
career in her place, in blockbusters chosen
by Miramount.
Five years after the stunning Waltz with
Bashir, the Israeli director Ari Folman is
appalled at the changes in cinema and
at human nature. The film is a fantastic,
futuristic diptych, combining live action
and animated images, in tribute to the
work of the Fleischer brothers in the
1930s. A dizzying film brought to life with
the incredible grace of Robin Wright in her
own role.
