Equipment needed:<br />

4 SONET test sets<br />

<strong>Test</strong> <strong>Plan</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Optical</strong> <strong>Grooming</strong> <strong>Switches</strong><br />

<strong>Test</strong> method:<br />

1. Follows on from successful completion of TCB005<br />

2. Confirm that lockout is still in place and that circuits are correctly routed and all test sets<br />

are error free<br />

3. Break PAR#1-LA#1 fibre<br />

Expected result<br />

• Within 10 seconds alarm should be raised indicating location of fibre break<br />

• Both the OC3 and OC12c circuits will see a brief loss of traffic – the duration of<br />

which will be recorded in each case<br />

• Switch management system should clearly show that neither trail has been<br />

routed/switched onto PAR#5-LON#1 fibre. The actual routing will be recorded <strong>for</strong><br />

each trail.<br />

Other comments:<br />

Depending on supplier implementation either protection switching or mesh restoration may<br />

occur here – and it may be different <strong>for</strong> the OC3 and OC12c circuits. An obvious measure of<br />

success is that the shorter the loss of traffic the better.<br />

TCB007: Confirm that when lockout is removed the management system allows easy<br />

reoptimisation of network.<br />

<strong>Test</strong> purpose:<br />

Following successful completion of TCB006, the network is in a complex, dual-fault situation<br />

with quite tortuous circuit routings. Once all faults are repaired, it is important that the<br />

operator can easily use the management system to reoptimise circuit routings.<br />

Equipment needed:<br />

<strong>Test</strong> method:<br />

1. Follows on from successful completion of TCB006<br />

2. First confirm that the results of TCB006 are fully and accurately documented<br />

3. Repair the PAR#5-LON#1 fibre and record any traffic loss and reports/alarms on<br />

management system<br />

4. Remove the lockout on PAR#5-LON#2 fibre and record any traffic loss and<br />

reports/alarms on management system<br />

5. Use the management system to automatically reoptimise the network configuration and<br />

circuit routing<br />

6. Note durations of any loss of traffic and confirm circuit routings are back to initial state<br />

Expected result:<br />

• There should be as little impact on traffic as possible<br />

• The automatic reoptimisation process should be easy and intuitive – should take<br />

BTexact no more than 10 minutes<br />

• At the completion of the test the network should be in a stable state – error free, alarm<br />

free and with the circuits returned to their original optimal routings<br />
