Fishing and related activities. This sector experienced a loss of 83 jobs,
which can be translated to a negative growth rate of 5 percent (Figure 5-11).
Table 5-5 shows that this decline is attributed to both the national and the
competitive share components.

Manufacturing
Manufacturing. This was the weakest industry analyzed. This sector lost 875
jobs, which can be translated into a 21 percent decrease (Figure 5-11). All three
components negatively impacted this sector (Table 5-5).
Construction. This sector was responsible for the creation of 32 new jobs in
the two-county region. This is attributed to a 1 percent employment increase
(Figure 5-11). Both the national and the competitive share decreased in the
expected employment in construction; however, the industry mix component
counteracted this, thus contributing to a positive employment growth rate (Table
5-5).
