This sector grew at the fastest pace. A 43 percent growth rate can be attributed to the creation of 93 new jobs from 2001 to 2005 (Figure 5-14). The national growth component has decreased it by 267 jobs. The industry mix decreased the expected value by 45 jobs and the competitive share component had a negative impact of 794 jobs (Figure 5-15). These three components decreased the overall number of jobs by 1107, which represents an employment decline of 16.43 percent (Table 5-7).

This sector was relatively strong given national trends, losing only 4 jobs or declining 1 percent (Figure 5-16). Similar to Aransas, the industry mix was the only positive component of the shift-share, meaning that the local industry is growing faster than the national average growth rate of the four sectors analyzed. The national growth component had also negatively impacted this industry and a zero value for the competitive share component indicates that the local and the national industry are growing at similar rates (Table 5-7).
