1. School Contexts<br />

The Case Study of the Market School<br />

This second public high school was called the “Market School”. It was<br />

located near the boundary of the province, around B<strong>an</strong>gkok suburb<strong>an</strong> area. The<br />

school was established in 1904, <strong>an</strong>d located within a market area <strong>an</strong>d local bus station.<br />

The school aimed to be a top ten of school learning resources <strong>an</strong>d develop student<br />

learning potential, morals <strong>an</strong>d ethic. The entire population of the school was<br />

approximately 3,200 students <strong>an</strong>d 141 teachers. The school had twelve classrooms<br />

each in Level 3, Grades 7 – 9, <strong>an</strong>d ten classrooms each in Level 4, Grades 10 - 12.<br />

Each Grades 7 – 9 classroom had 55-60 students, <strong>an</strong>d each Grades 10 - 12 classroom<br />

had 40-45 students.<br />

During 7.40 – 8.20 a.m. students <strong>an</strong>d teachers beg<strong>an</strong> their day with singing the<br />

national <strong>an</strong>them, <strong>an</strong>d clasping their h<strong>an</strong>ds <strong>an</strong>d giving th<strong>an</strong>ks to the country, to Buddha<br />

<strong>an</strong>d to the king, which upholds the Buddhist faith. On Friday morning, they had<br />

special events such as the school leader gave a speech to students <strong>an</strong>d the sport day<br />

preparation was operated. In school, students wore the school uniforms. Then, the<br />

teaching period started at 8.10 a.m. <strong>an</strong>d finished at 16.10 p.m. There were seven onehour<br />

teaching periods <strong>an</strong>d one hour of lunchtime.<br />

In the science department, most of teachers worked together in the room of the<br />

science department, but the particip<strong>an</strong>t teacher, Mr. Vyn, worked at the room of Scout<br />

Association. Occasionally, Mr. Vyn met all teachers in the department. The head of<br />

the science department would contact Mr. Vyn by visiting his teaching class<br />

periodically.<br />
