8. <strong>Transport</strong> status request<br />

During the transport, the carrier can be asked <strong>for</strong> a report about the precise status of the<br />
transport or about unexpected events. This request can be explicit or can be part of a<br />
general agreement in which conditions <strong>for</strong> automatic reporting are specified.<br />
If EDI is used, the request will be done by means of the message IFTSTQ.<br />
9. <strong>Transport</strong> status report to consignor / consignee<br />
During the transport, the carrier can in<strong>for</strong>m the consignor/consignee about the precise status<br />
of the transport or unexpected events that have occurred. This reporting can be done as a<br />
milestone reporting, reporting by exception or reports based on ad-hoc request <strong>for</strong> follow-up<br />
in<strong>for</strong>mation.<br />
If EDI is used, this will be done by the message IFTSTA .<br />
10. (Pre)-arrival notification to consignee<br />
The carrier will in<strong>for</strong>m the consignee about the consignments that are due to<br />
arrive at the stipulated Port of Discharge and ETA .<br />
According to terms of delivery stipulated in the sales contract either the carrier/ (import)<br />
<strong>for</strong>warder or consignee will initiate the on carriage<br />
transport stage.<br />
If EDI is used, this will be done by the message IFTMAN or IFCSUM.<br />
11. Freight Invoice<br />

According to the delivery conditions, the transport costs can be charged either to the<br />
consignee or the consignor, or split between these two parties.<br />
Depending on the terms of sale, freight charges may be payable be<strong>for</strong>e or after the main<br />
transport takes place.<br />
If EDI is used, this will be done by the message INVOIC. If needed, the breakdown of<br />
charges can be detailed in the message IFTMCS.<br />
Goods delivered to consignee<br />
12. Proof of delivery<br />
On receipt of the notification that the goods have arrived in the harbour, the consignee can<br />
take possession of the consignment, provided that all due freight charges have been paid.<br />
As a proof of delivery the consignee or the freight <strong>for</strong>warder(import) has to sign the release<br />
note presented by the carrier, confirming the acceptance of the cargo.
