a.1. Documents issued to Carrier<br />

For the shipment of the goods, the carrier needs some documentation be<strong>for</strong>e leaving the<br />

shipping location. In function of the transport the consignor has to provide to the carrier<br />

some in<strong>for</strong>mation (documents) such as the shipping advice, Inland waterway bill of lading<br />

and if needed the invoice, customs documents and others.<br />

If EDI is used, this will be done by the message IFTMIN or IFCSUM (if needed INVOIC,<br />

CUSDEC messages).<br />

a.2. Document issued by the carrier to the consignor<br />

As a proof of the collection of the goods, the carrier has to provide to the consignor a signed<br />

inland waterway bill of lading.<br />

b. Documents issued to Consignee<br />

At the moment that the goods are leaving the consignor shall in<strong>for</strong>m the Consignee about<br />

the goods despatched. The consignee can receive the following document :<br />

- despatch advice, packing list, commercial invoice.<br />

If EDI is used, this will be done by the messages DESADV, INVOIC.<br />

4a. <strong>Transport</strong> status request to the carrier<br />

Goods on the move<br />

During the transport the carrier can be asked <strong>for</strong> a report about the precise status of the<br />

transport or unexpected facts. This request of reporting can de done explicitly or can be part<br />

of a general agreement in which it is specified conditions <strong>for</strong> automatic reporting.<br />

If EDI is used <strong>for</strong> requesting a status report, this will be done by the message<br />

IFTSTQ.<br />

4b. <strong>Transport</strong> status report to the consignor<br />

During the transport the carrier can in<strong>for</strong>m the consignor about the precise status of the<br />

transport or unexpected facts. This reporting can be done as master reporting by exception<br />

or based on ad-hoc request <strong>for</strong> follow-up in<strong>for</strong>mation.<br />

If EDI is used <strong>for</strong> reporting of a status, this will be done by the message<br />

IFTSTA.<br />

5. Pre-arrival notification<br />

The carrier can in<strong>for</strong>m the consignee about the <strong>for</strong>eseen arrival date at the<br />

place of delivery.<br />

If EDI is used, this will be done by the message IFTMAN or IFCSUM.
