Significance of violence
Brainstorming
The facilitator asks the participants thoughts on the
significance of ”violence” and records what they say.
The facilitator writes down the several forms of violence
that will rise. (Physical, verbal, psychological, sexual,
etc)
Recording of cases
The participants are divided in 4 groups and the
facilitator gives to each group one topic:
- Violence in school
- Violence in society
- Violence in family
- Violence in age mates’ companies
The topics refer to a certain colour and each group
takes coloured paper according to their topic.
In the small groups each person starts with describing
a case of violence that is linked with the topic. The small
group decides which case they will write on the paper to
present it to the others.
Then each group puts the paper on the wall and
presents the cases to the others that express violence.
After the presentation, questions of clarification and
discussion the group meets back in plenary to start the
debriefing.
- Was it easy/difficult to find the cases?
- What surprised you?
- Why?
- Can you see different forms of violence?
To end the session the facilitator gives an overview on the
different forms of violence.
This method could correlate with the violence barometer.
All the participants have to make the classification of
the cases. They try to put the cards in a scale from
0° to 100° according to the intensity of violence that
each card shows respectively their own point of view.
In order to place the cards in the scale, the most of the
members should agree. The ordering of cards can take
place on the floor or on a board.
