1.6 IBM Corporate Environmental Policy<br />
SUBJECT Environmental Protection<br />
IBM has established three policies which demonstrate its commitment to envi-<br />
ronmental protection, conservation and recycling and environmental affairs.<br />
These policies serve as the basis for many of the environmental activities that<br />
IBM pursues; They are reproduced in their entirety on the pages that foliow.<br />

IBM wlll reduce to a minimum the ecological impact of all of its activities. Management in<br />
IBM is expected to be continuously on guard against adversely affecting the environment and<br />
to seek ways to conserve natural resources.<br />
Although IBM is not in a business which creates severe pollution problems, IBM is committed to:<br />
Meet or exceed ail applicable government regulations in any location.<br />
Establish stringent standards of its own where government regulations do not exist.<br />
Attempt to utilize nonpolluting technologies and to minimize energy and materials<br />
consumption in the design of products and processes.<br />
Minimize dependence on terminal waste treatment through development of techniques<br />
to recover and reuse air, water and materials.<br />
Assist government and other industries in developing solutions to environmental<br />
problems when appropriate opportunities present themselves and IBM's experience<br />
and knowledge may be helpful.<br />
