This container is a "pretty package", professional looking, and attractive to a
customer, but not particularly attractive to someone concerned with environ-
mental issues.
It is inevitable that packaging designers will need to give increased consider-
ation to the environmental consequences of their designs. The investigation of
the toxic aspect of packaging disposal is relatively new and is being expanded
through the use of more accurate testing equipment and dedicated scientific
research. The challenge to the IBM packaging community is to understand the
issues and to consider protection of the environment as an ongoing job respon-
sibility.
