for one's efforts, let us remember that Dr. <strong>Henry</strong> <strong>Baird</strong><br />

<strong>Favill</strong> was the first leader in the present-day effort to bring<br />

about that condition.<br />

mystery of racial traits is emphasized at the death<br />

of Dr. <strong>Henry</strong> <strong>Baird</strong> <strong>Favill</strong> of Chicago. Mainly of<br />

white stock, there was Indian blood in Dr. <strong>Favill</strong>, and<br />

it is for his semblance to a group leader and chief that he<br />

will long be remembered. He was active and eminent as a<br />

medical man not only in a wide private practice, but as<br />

a lecturer, a consultant, and a leading spirit in local and<br />

national medical organizations. But it was in his personal<br />

and communal relations that he was most felt. His magnificent<br />

rugged physique suggested the group chieftain.<br />

This was fully borne out by his superb vitality, his accessibility,<br />

his wisdom of the heart. He had that character<br />

common to all big personalities, the inspiring suggestion of<br />

a free and unqualified natural force. He kept in Chicago<br />

the personal touch with his patients that was natural to<br />

his practice in Wisconsin, but he established a sigiilar<br />

valuable relation to Chicago in politics, civics, education,<br />

and humane organization. Publicity has much to do<br />

with popularity. Some popularity is nine-tenths publicity.<br />

But Dr. <strong>Favill</strong>'s was a popularity founded on realities.<br />

For all the complex and anonymous character of the modern<br />

city, his spirit will march on in the places that knew him,<br />

very much as the memory of a tribal chief.<br />
