The optical <strong>SAR</strong> plocessors have been replacecl by the more efficient anrl<br />

effective digital <strong>SAR</strong> processols since the late 1970's (Hovnannessian [44]).<br />

For the digital <strong>SAR</strong> processing, an approach utilizing range rniglatiol cor'-<br />

lection ancl rnatchecl filteling in the lange-Dopplel dornain has been rvidely<br />

usecl by authors such as Wu [109] [110], Belnett ald Cunning [6] [7], and<br />

W et al, [ii2]. Most digital <strong>SAR</strong> processors currently being used are based<br />

on this conventional apploach. However', these conventional <strong>SAR</strong> processols<br />

cornmolly ìrave hacl dificulties in preselving phase infolrnation ancl irrproving<br />

perfo,nance.<br />

For advancecl applications of <strong>SAR</strong> data to geological and geophysical explo-,-ation<br />

ancl lesearch, it will l¡ecorre necessaly to extl'act cet tain chat acteristic<br />

surface palaneters froln <strong>SAR</strong> data as well as ltigh quality irriagely<br />

of terrestlial surface topographic features, Development of a <strong>SAR</strong> invelsion<br />

techniques, which can provide al appropliate complex <strong>SAR</strong> irnagery fol this<br />

specific application has long been lequiled. The /-fr clornain processing approach<br />

is one of the n-rost recent developrnents in <strong>SAR</strong> signal processing, and<br />

is an altelnative to the conventional apploach that utilizes the range-Doppler<br />
