emotional and sensory experiences into a systematic frame of reference for<br />

creativity.<br />

Cemi discovers before long that it is not so easy to seek his old friends<br />

out, once they have disappeared: "Causaron al principio de su trato, la im-<br />

" (1,496). It is one<br />

thing to experience intuitively the creative potential of a triumph over the<br />

Unconscious, but to re-visit it to gain inspiration for the creative act, in<br />

cold blood as it were, is quite another matter. The knowledge Cemi , has gain-<br />

ed from his friendship with Reason and Chaos personified may have to lie dor-<br />

mant until he understands a little more of the creative process itself. The<br />

foundationsof his art have been laid by family memories and influences but<br />

Cemi must learn how to tap their power. Words will be his tools and he is<br />

fascinated by them:<br />
