professions majors. Topics emphasized biochemistry, cell<br />

structure and function, metabolism, cellular reproduction,<br />

Mendelian genetics, molecular genetics, genetics of<br />

prokaryotes and viruses, biotechnological techniques, and<br />

evolution. Students taking this course should plan to also take<br />

biology and health professions majors. Topics emphasized<br />

include evolution, systematics, prokaryote and eukaryote<br />

diversity (including a survey of the Kingdoms Protista, Fungi,<br />

Animalia, and Plantae), anatomy and physiology of animals,<br />

plant structure and function, and ecology. This course<br />

completes the lower-division core curriculum in biology for<br />
