English 162 is an introduction to college reading and study<br />
techniques. Students learn to analyze, annotate, and<br />
summarize a variety of college readings, including essays,<br />
textbooks chapters, news articles, and stories. Emphasis is on<br />
analytical reading: recognizing main ideas, discerning<br />
underlying patterns of thought, making inferences, and<br />
drawing conclusions. Not applicable to associate degree.<br />

development of critical analytical thinking. Focus is placed on<br />

should develop the ability to successfully critique college-level<br />
reading material by analyzing a variety of prose structures.<br />
