Second edition. 8vo, xxiv, 48pp, disbound. The book went through at least 3
editions in 1721. The letters concern the choice of a wife and service to
one’s country. The last 2 letters, from Sir Cropley, were written at the behest
of Shaftesbury to inform Lord Molesworth about the former’s marriage. The
introduction, in the form of a letter to a young gentleman at Oxford, is
signed “Z.Z.”--i.e., John Toland. Minimal foxing and browning to exterior
pages. This copy has been rather haphazardly cropped, with some pages
crooked and some with less than optimum margins, but there is no loss of
text.
