vol. II, as called for. Booklabel of H. Harvey Frost to front pastedowns. A
little scattered spotting, a few red pencil underlines in vol. II, old engraved
table of historical currency values tipped in between E4 and F1, vol. I, with
offsetting to adjacent pages.
経 済 学 上 最 大 の 古 典 の 初 版 本 です。 各 個 人 はそれぞれが 利 己 心 によって 動 いて
いる 場 合 でも、 実 は〈 彼 の 意 図 にはないところの 目 的 を 全 うするよう、 見 えざる 手
によって 導 かれているのだ〉という 彼 の 言 葉 は 有 名 です。イギリスの 通 商 政 策 が、
それまでの 多 くの 人 為 的 統 制 措 置 から 脱 却 しえたのは、 本 書 の 影 響 によるところ
が 大 きいといえます。

First Edition published in Switzerland. 6 vols. 12mo, pp. [iv], viii, 298; [iv],
266; [iv], 292; [iv], 239, [1] blank; [iv], 310; [iv], 368, contemporary half
sheep over sprinkled boards, spines ruled in gilt with contrasting red and
blue labels, lettered and numbered in gilt, with contemporary ‘price’ written
in ink at head of half-title of vol. I, and title of V & VI, and later ownership inscription on
front paste down of vols. I & II. Rare French translation and the first to be printed in
Switzerland, of Adam Smith’s Wealth of Nations, representing the first appearance of
Jean-Louis Blavet’s translation in bookform that was commercially available.
匿 名 の 訳 者 はブザンソン 生 まれで 重 農 学 派 ケネー、ボードーの 友 人 ブラヴェ(Jean-Louis
Blavet, 1719―1809)です。ブラヴェは『 農 業 ・ 商 業 ・ 技 術 ・ 財 政 雑 誌 』(Journal de l’agriculture,
du commerce, des arts et des finances)の1779 年 ~80 年 号 に 最 初 の 仏 訳 を 掲 載 、1781 年 にそれ
を3 巻 本 にまとめたものを20 部 だけ 作 りスミスにも 贈 りました。 当 然 この 版 は 稀 覯 そのものでス
ミス 所 蔵 本 の 他 にはエディンバラ 大 学 図 書 館 にしかありませんでしたが1985 年 に 慶 應 大 学 が 購
入 しました。 同 じ1781 年 この 二 つの 版 をもとにした 版 がスイスのイヴェルドンから6 巻 本 で 出 ま
した。 出 版 者 は、1762 年 以 来 イヴェルドンに 定 住 して、その 剽 窃 を 非 難 されながらも4 折 判 、
42 巻 、 補 遺 6 巻 、 図 版 10 巻 のイヴェルドン 版 『 百 科 全 書 』( 慶 應 大 学 所 蔵 )を1770 年 から10 年 か
けて 完 成 させたド・フェリーチェ(Fortune Barthelemy de Felice, 1723―89)です。イヴェルド
ン 版 『 百 科 全 書 』とともに 出 版 史 においても 稀 覯 なイヴェルドン 版 『 国 富 論 』のオリジナル 完 本
をお 届 けいたします。
