A fragment of the first frame is repeated, reversed, in the last frame, enclosing the comic<br />

as the opening and closing sentences of an argument enclose the argument [figs 26,27].<br />

The frames are placed in series like sentences in a paragraph. In this comic visual<br />

communication mimics the structure of verbal language, and becomes a different<br />

language. Visually the comic functions and is arranged and is read the same way as<br />

wriiten text is; visual replaces verbal explicitly, not implicitly as it does in a traditional<br />

narrative comic. Without creating a separate reality, this comic still exists between the<br />

frames, behind the page, in the composite statement that is generated, not in the frames<br />

themselves. It lies in the motion of reading and the act of connecting the frames into a<br />

seamless whole.<br />
