Soothsayers, by Gimbal Mounted God Comics, is pretentious, unnecessarily mysterious,
inexplicable, and confusing. The plot is bad secondhand science fiction. It is not too
poorly executed, as these comics go, and is a good example of its type.
The artist concentrates too much on producing a facsimile of a comic, and not enough
on the process of creating a comic. There is no understanding of anything but the surface.
He borrows indiscriminately from other comics, not to expand or strengthen his story, but
to make it resemble a preconceived notion of what a comic should look like [fig 2].
