Pedestrian Warning Sign Installation on North Street
RECOMMENDATION:
That D.C.S. Report No. 30-2013 be approved; and further
That the Municipality of Lambton Shores install a pedestrian
warning sign on North Street;
That Council approves in principle the installation of a stop
sign at the intersection of Merrywood Crescent and Meadow
Lilly drive subject to the completion of the public
engagement period and final approval by by-law.
REPORT
This report brings forward two separate reqests for street signage to improve pedestrian
and motorist safety. During the 2013 budget deliberations Council provided direction to
staff to treat potential roadway safety concerns with an increased degree of priority, and
as such staff recommends that Council support both of these requests.
Request for Warning Sign – North Street
The Municipality has received correspondence requesting a pedestrian warning sign on
North Street off of Goosemarsh Line. The correspondence is attached to this report. A
map of the location is provided below. The particular location of concern is the 90
degree bend between North Street and East Street.
Community Services staff have had the opportunity to review the request on site and
are in agreement with the request. We believe that the sign promotes the well being and
safety of pedestrians in this neighbourhood and provides increased visual aids for
vehicle traffic. The cost of the sign installation is negligible and is covered within the
sign line item within the Community Services 2013 Operating Budget. The installation
can proceed when weather permits.
