2013 International Silver Stick Tournament

REPORT
The 23 rd Annual North American Silver Stick B and C Championships were held on the
weekends of January 11-13 and January 25-27, 2013 at the Shores Recreation Centre
in Forest and the Legacy Recreation Centre in Thedford. The Watford Arena was also
used for games on the Fridays of both weekends. Peewee and Midget teams gathered
on the first weekend, while the Atom and Bantam teams met up on the second
weekend. Once again, the tournaments were a huge success for all involved.
Teams travelled from all over North America to our community for the event. We had
visitors from the United States representing towns in Texas, Colorado, Indiana, Florida,
Alabama, New York, Ohio and Michigan. Ontario was well represented with teams from
Bancroft, Lucan, Ottawa and Lambeth to name a few. Our very own local Lambton
Shores Minor Hockey Association teams represented each age category as well.
Our local economy received a boost with many of the visiting teams staying at local
hotels in Grand Bend and Forest. Our guests also frequented the many restaurants and
shopped at the businesses in our community during their stay.
The Municipality coordinates the gate keepers at each location throughout the two
weekends. All monies received at the gates are kept by the municipality, less the
referee fees and gate keepers’ wages.
Silver Stick 2013 - Gate Receipts
January 11-13 Gate Profit $ 9,669.00
January 25-27 Gate Profit $ 9,566.00
Gate Profit from Silver Stick $ 19,235.00
In exchange for the money brought in at the gates, the Municipality does not charge the
Silver Stick Committee for the use of the ice at our facilities. The Municipality pays for
the ice used at the Watford facility.
