PERMEABILITY is <strong>the</strong> soil's ability to transmit air or water.<br />

SEASONAL HIGH WATER TABLE is <strong>the</strong> upper limit <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> shallowest zone <strong>of</strong> saturation which occurs<br />

in <strong>the</strong> soil (N.J.A.C. 7:9A-5.8).<br />

SOIL CONSISTENCY is <strong>the</strong> feel <strong>of</strong> soil, as dry, moist, or wet.<br />

SOIL STRUCTURE is <strong>the</strong> arrangement <strong>of</strong> soil particles, resulting from <strong>the</strong> ongoing processes <strong>of</strong> moistening,<br />

drying, and aeration provided by plants and animals. Soil structure influences water movement: horizontal<br />

and vertical. Implications are manifest in drainage, infiltration, and septic suitability.<br />

TEXTURE reflects percentages <strong>of</strong> sand, silt, and clay; determine soil porosity and permeability to air and<br />

water.<br />

WATER TABLE is <strong>the</strong> upper surface <strong>of</strong> a zone <strong>of</strong> saturation (Chapter 9A Standards <strong>for</strong> Individual<br />
