7.1 Choice <strong>of</strong> Setpoints for the Series Configuration<br />

There are four possible control choices in the series configuration:<br />

i) unit 1 controlling P, unit 2 controlling P<br />

ii) unit 1 controlling F, unit 2 controlling F<br />

iii) unit 1 controlling F, unit 2 controlling P<br />

iv) unit 1 controlling P, unit 2 controlling F<br />

For each choice (see Table 7.1), there is an experiment when unit 1 is at 10% <strong>of</strong> its output power,<br />

while unit 2 is at 90% <strong>of</strong> its output power <strong>and</strong> the system transfers to isl<strong>and</strong>. Figure 7.2 shows the<br />

series configuration with all the loads, highlighting the fact that the only event taking place is the<br />

transition to isl<strong>and</strong>. The system is importing from the grid.<br />
