LAND USE POLICIES<br />

Protected Countryside. Lands within the Natural Core designation are subject<br />

to the policies <strong>of</strong> Section 4.10.5 (Natural Core) <strong>of</strong> this <strong>Plan</strong>. Lands within the<br />

Greenbelt <strong>Plan</strong> Protected Countryside designation area are subject to the<br />

policies <strong>of</strong> this Section.<br />

Greenbelt Protected Countryside areas include those lands within the Greenbelt<br />

<strong>Plan</strong> area lying outside <strong>of</strong> the Natural Core areas shown on Schedule A2 (Land<br />

Use) <strong>of</strong> this <strong>Plan</strong>. The purpose <strong>of</strong> the Greenbelt <strong>Plan</strong> Protected Countryside<br />

designation area is to maintain and, wherever possible, improve or restore<br />

the ecological integrity <strong>of</strong> natural features and functions within the Greenbelt<br />

<strong>Plan</strong> area. Lands within the Greenbelt <strong>Plan</strong> Protected Countryside designation<br />

area shall be protected over the long term to maintain and, wherever possible,<br />

enhance the size, diversity, health, connectivity, and resiliency <strong>of</strong> the Greenway<br />

System.<br />

4.10.4.1 LAND USE<br />

It is the policy <strong>of</strong> Council that:<br />

1. The following uses shall be permitted in the Greenbelt <strong>Plan</strong> Protected<br />

Countryside designation shown on Schedule A2 (Land Use) <strong>of</strong> this <strong>Plan</strong>:<br />

a. Fish, wildlife and forest management;<br />

b. Conservation projects and flood and erosion control projects;<br />

c. Transportation, infrastructure, and utilities subject to the policies in<br />

Section 4.10.4.1.4 <strong>of</strong> this <strong>Plan</strong>;<br />

d. Low-intensity recreational uses; and<br />

e. Unserviced parks.<br />

2. The permitted uses shall be in accordance with the Greenbelt <strong>Plan</strong>.<br />

3. It is intended that lands within the Greenbelt <strong>Plan</strong> Protected Countryside<br />

designation area are to be set aside for environmental protection and shall<br />

eventually be acquired by the <strong>Town</strong> or another appropriate public agency.<br />

4. Street crossings, where necessary, may be permitted provided that the<br />

need and appropriate location <strong>of</strong> the street has been addressed in the<br />

MESP.<br />

5. Stormwater management works may be permitted subject to the following<br />

criteria:<br />

a. The stormwater management works are appropriate to its location,<br />

design and sizing in respect <strong>of</strong> achieving best management practices;<br />

b. The location, dimensions, design and technical requirements for<br />

stormwater management works are addressed in the MESP on a<br />

community wide basis;<br />

c. The stormwater management works are designed to enhance the<br />

adjacent context <strong>of</strong> the area and maintains the ecological integrity or<br />
