Unfortunately, there exists no unified and complex strategy for preparation of young people
for the world of work in Slovakia. Only separate projects made and accomplished by schools,
employers, educational and psychological counseling centers or OLSAF work on enhancement
of school‐leavers readiness for praxis. The Government deals conceptually only with some
chosen spheres, which have the potential to improve the above‐mentioned skills and abilities
of young school‐leavers.
According to the Conception of foreign languages teaching in primary and secondary schools,
which was approved by the Government in 2007, study of one foreign language should
gradually become obligatory from the third grade and study of the second foreign language
from the sixth grade at primary schools. Study of two foreign languages should become
obligatory in all types of secondary schools by 2016.
The Government has approved the Strategy of use ICT in regional education in 2008. Its aim is
to bring Slovak education closer to modern ones. [Ref. 4]
III.2.3 How should learning processes be improved to support young people in
developing their competences and qualifications
Austria
In principle all learning activities at school or other fields of life should have the aim to
discover talents, competences and interests of young people, to give motivation and options
to develop this talents and competences and to find out points and accesses in the world of
life and work to make a next step into further education, training, employment and life.
Especially all subjects and learning offers should keep in mind the possible connection to
applications in real life.
Some aspects should not be the “content” of learning, but a “principle” of learning processes,
so e.g. to recognize own strength talents and potentials, to find out way for developing own
personality, which fits to the personal structure and to possible accesses to employment, and
to combine enjoying learning activities and afford and target orientated hard work. It’s quite
simple in sports and music: If you find out the fields within young people could be find her
qualities, they are mostly willing to work strongly to improve their quality and to became real
good in this field of sports and music; it should be the same in all other fields of education and
qualification regarding to possible access to employment and further pathways of education
and life.
