7.6 Setting up <strong>of</strong> Libraries in Regional<br />
Centres (RCs)<br />
<strong>The</strong> NIOS is in the process <strong>of</strong> setting up library at the<br />
RCs with a reading room facility. Primarily this facility<br />
are for the staff and resource persons but soon may<br />
be extended to the learners. <strong>The</strong>se libraries will have<br />
necessary resource material and several sets <strong>of</strong> NIOS<br />
material for use.<br />
7.7 Seven New Vocational Courses<br />
<strong>The</strong> Vocational Education Department is working to<br />
<strong>of</strong>fer as many as seven new courses in the coming<br />
sessions namely : Diploma in Operation <strong>The</strong>atre<br />
Technician, Data Entry Operations, Diploma in<br />
Insurance Services, Diploma in Accounts, Banking<br />
and Taxation, Certificate in Ayurvedic <strong>The</strong>rapies,<br />
Diploma in Apparel Designing. <strong>The</strong> courses would<br />
meet the need and demand <strong>of</strong> market and that <strong>of</strong><br />
learners.<br />
7.8 NIOS Computer Training and Data<br />
Centre Inaugurated<br />
Mrs. Frances Ferriera, Education Specialist,<br />
Commonwealth <strong>of</strong> Learning, Vancouver, Canada<br />
inaugurated the Computer Training and Data Centre<br />
<strong>of</strong> NIOS meant specifically for the capacity building<br />
on IT <strong>of</strong> the personnel involved with the open<br />
schooling system in the country.<br />
In order to make maximum utilization <strong>of</strong> ICT in <strong>Open</strong><br />
Learning and under the capacity building programme,<br />
the NIOS in collaboration with Intel organised an IT<br />
Teach Programme in order to enhance and upgrade<br />
the IT skills <strong>of</strong> NIOS <strong>of</strong>ficials. Training was provided<br />
to 120 <strong>of</strong>ficials in batches <strong>of</strong> 20 for duration <strong>of</strong> <strong>10</strong><br />
working days (2 weeks) for 2½ hrs per day<br />
7.9 New Face <strong>of</strong> Website<br />
<strong>The</strong> NIOS has revamped its website and have<br />
arranged the information, interface and link in a more<br />
systematic manner so that students, study centre staff<br />
and public at large may be comfortable in accessing<br />
it. <strong>The</strong>re is a provision for regular updates <strong>of</strong> the<br />
website. A large number <strong>of</strong> people visit NIOS website<br />
to access required information. <strong>The</strong> website also<br />
provide facility for feedback and academic support.<br />
