• NIOS used to dispatch study material to its<br />
Study Centres for distribution to the learners<br />
after confirmation <strong>of</strong> their admission. NIOS has<br />
now started dispatching study material to Online<br />
learners at their residential address in addition<br />
to the dispatch <strong>of</strong> study materials to the Study<br />
Centres for Offline learners.<br />
• NIOS used to collect admission and<br />
examination fee through Cash/ Bank Drafts at<br />
its Study Centres. Now NIOS has started Easy<br />
payment facility for admission and examination<br />
fee by giving on Online ‘Payment Gateway’ by<br />
which the learners can deposit their fee through<br />
Credit Cards.<br />
12.2.1 Access through Online admissions<br />
Online Admission is now available throughout the year<br />
with two blocks. <strong>The</strong> facility <strong>of</strong> Online Admission was<br />
decentralised by establishment <strong>of</strong> a Online Cell and<br />
Facilitation Counter at all the Regional Centres <strong>of</strong><br />
NIOS including sub-centre. All the Regional Centres<br />
were provided with necessary staff and infrastructural<br />
facilities to handle Online admissions by setting up a<br />
separate Online Cell. 90% seats were allotted for<br />
Online Admission in respect <strong>of</strong> Regional Centre Delhi<br />
and Chandigarh (except the states <strong>of</strong> Himachal<br />
Pradesh and J& K) and 60% seats were allotted in<br />
other Regional Centres. During the year <strong>2009</strong>-<strong>10</strong>,<br />
admission in secondary and senior secondary courses<br />
<strong>of</strong> NIOS took place in the month <strong>of</strong> July and August<br />
through a network <strong>of</strong> 2296 Accredited Institutions<br />
(AIs) commonly known as Study Centres spread all<br />
over India and abroad in Nepal and Middle East<br />
Countries (Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Kuwait). <strong>The</strong> aim<br />
<strong>of</strong> having the Study Centres outside India is to extend<br />
educational facilities through the open learning system<br />
to non-resident Indians and other nationals settled<br />
there. <strong>The</strong> total number <strong>of</strong> students (419702) admitted<br />
in the year <strong>2009</strong>-<strong>10</strong> through Online as well as through<br />
AIs was 2,13,337 and 2,06,365 respectively.<br />
<strong>The</strong> salient features <strong>of</strong> On-line admissions are as<br />
follows:<br />

Study Centre <strong>of</strong> one’s choice<br />
– Admission <strong>Open</strong> 24x7: Admission opened<br />
round the year for the learners for On Demand<br />
Examination <strong>of</strong> Secondary Course<br />
– Better support services: Direct interaction <strong>of</strong><br />
learners with NIOS, faster redressal <strong>of</strong> problems<br />
– Easy Payment: Payment <strong>of</strong> fee online through<br />
Credit Card else by Bank Draft<br />
