NIOS has an in-house DTP Unit. All important<br />

publications like Prospectus, Annual Report,<br />

Certificate, Marksheet, Annual Account, NIOS at a<br />

Glance, Answer Books, <strong>Open</strong> Learning magazine,<br />

<strong>Open</strong> <strong>Schooling</strong> News Bulletin, Examination related<br />

materials and various Reports <strong>of</strong> Seminars and<br />

Conferences are typeset in the DTP unit.<br />

15.5 Material Distribution Unit<br />

<strong>The</strong> Material Distribution Unit (MDU) is situated at<br />

Central Ware House Corporation in R.P. Bagh, Delhi.<br />

MD Unit is entrusted the task <strong>of</strong> storing/issuing <strong>of</strong><br />

paper, receiving Study material related to Academic<br />

and Vocational Courses, Prospectus for Academic<br />

and Vocational Courses, Blank Answer Books and<br />

other printed materials & audio/video CDs and its<br />

distribution to NIOS learners, Accredited Institutions,<br />

Accredited Vocational Institutions, Examination<br />

Centres and State <strong>Open</strong> Schools.<br />

<strong>The</strong> main functions <strong>of</strong> MDU are :<br />

1. Receipt <strong>of</strong> Material<br />

• Printing paper <strong>of</strong> different sizes from paper mills<br />

• Study Material from the Printers<br />

• Prospectus for AI/AVIs<br />

• Blank Answer sheets<br />

• Audio/Video CDs<br />

• Other misc. printed material<br />

2. Dispatch <strong>of</strong> Material<br />

• Issue printing paper to printers<br />

• Distribution <strong>of</strong> Study Material to individual<br />

learners <strong>of</strong> NIOS<br />

• Study material to State <strong>Open</strong> School<br />

• Answer sheets to Examination Centres<br />

• Prospectus to AIs & AVIs<br />

• Audio/Video & other misc. dispatches<br />

3. Sale <strong>of</strong> Study Material<br />

• To Individual students<br />

• State <strong>Open</strong> Schools<br />

Dispatch <strong>of</strong> Study material<br />

<strong>The</strong> Success <strong>of</strong> <strong>Open</strong> and Distance Learning<br />

programme largely depends on timely supply <strong>of</strong><br />

instructional materials to the students to enable them<br />

to learn at their own pace. <strong>The</strong> students <strong>of</strong> NIOS<br />

were given instruction material duly packed in<br />

polythene for each subject.<br />

Availability <strong>of</strong> study material at a right time to the<br />

learners in distance education system is a great<br />

challenge and undisputedly it can be achieved if it is<br />

delivered direct to the learners residence. In the year<br />

<strong>2009</strong>-<strong>10</strong> the study material was dispatched to nearly<br />

2.50 lakhs students registered online, direct to the<br />

students at their residential address through<br />

Department <strong>of</strong> Post. <strong>The</strong> study material was<br />

dispatched to more than 1399 Accredited Institutions<br />

also for distribution to <strong>of</strong>fline students through<br />

transporter.<br />
