<strong>National</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Open</strong> <strong>Schooling</strong><br />

<strong>The</strong> On Demand Examinations at Secondary and<br />

Senior Secondary level were conducted by NIOS in<br />

the following subjects:<br />

Secondary Course: Hindi, English, Sanskrit,<br />

Mathematics, Science, Social Science, Economics,<br />

Commerce, Home Science, Word Processing and<br />

Psychology.<br />

Senior Secondary Course: Mathematics, Physics,<br />

Commerce, Hindi, Home Science and Political<br />

Science. <strong>The</strong> question bank for conducting On<br />

Demand Examination in the remaining subjects is being<br />

developed.<br />

<strong>The</strong> On Demand Examinations at the Secondary and<br />

Senior Secondary stages were conducted at the NIOS<br />

Headquarters from Tuesday to Friday (except on<br />

public holidays) with a capacity <strong>of</strong> 130 students per<br />

day and at NIOS Regional Centre Pune, Hyderabad,<br />

Kochi, Patna, Bhopal, Jaipur and Kolkata with<br />

capacity to accommodate students ranging from ten<br />

to fifty students depending upon the existing available<br />

infrastructure for conduct <strong>of</strong> On Demand Examination.<br />

<strong>The</strong> practical examinations are conducted on Fridays<br />

and Saturdays at designated CBSE centres.<br />

To meet the demand <strong>of</strong> candidates for On Demand<br />

Examination, the frequency <strong>of</strong> On Demand<br />

Examination was increased from three to four times a<br />

week. To facilitate the candidates, On Line Registration<br />

<strong>of</strong> On Demand Candidates was introduced and<br />

manual registration was stopped.<br />

This scheme <strong>of</strong> On Demand Examination has<br />

been decentralized to all the Regional Offices<br />

<strong>of</strong> NIOS with the effect from March, 20<strong>10</strong>.<br />

14.12 Hunar Project<br />

In partnership with Bihar State Government, Project<br />

HUNAR was launched. Under this project the Muslim<br />

minority girl children were to be trained in vocational<br />

trades free <strong>of</strong> cost, tested and certified. <strong>The</strong><br />

Evaluation Deptt. conducted first phase <strong>of</strong><br />

examination under this project on 13.6.<strong>2009</strong> in seven<br />

vocational trades covering 37 districts <strong>of</strong> the State. A<br />

total <strong>of</strong> 13,768 students were enrolled for this<br />

examination.<br />

<strong>The</strong> second phase <strong>of</strong> (supplementary) examinations<br />

<strong>of</strong> students was conducted on 12.12.<strong>2009</strong> covering<br />

37 districts. A total <strong>of</strong> 4532 students enrolled for this<br />

examinations.<br />

On successful execution <strong>of</strong> the Project, the Bihar Govt.<br />

has requested NIOS to test and certify students <strong>of</strong><br />

new batch admitted under HUNAR Project-Phase-<br />

II. It is expected that a total <strong>of</strong> about 65,000 students<br />

will be covered and testing will be done in nine<br />

vocational trades under Phase-II <strong>of</strong> the project.<br />

Besides Muslim minority girl children, children from<br />

SC/ST and backward communities will also get the<br />

benefit <strong>of</strong> certification.<br />
