<strong>National</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Open</strong> <strong>Schooling</strong><br />
<strong>The</strong> Computer Training and Data Centre was<br />
inaugurated by Ms. Francis Farera, COL Education<br />
Specialist and Dr. S.S. Jena, Chairman, NIOS on<br />
25 th November, <strong>2009</strong>.<br />
<strong>10</strong>.2.5 Training in use <strong>of</strong> ICT to NIOS<br />
<strong>of</strong>ficials by Intel<br />
In order to maximise utilization <strong>of</strong> ICT in <strong>Open</strong><br />
Learning, a capacity building programme was<br />
organized in collaboration with Intel. IT Teach<br />
Programme was organized to enhance and upgrade<br />
the IT skill <strong>of</strong> NIOS Official. <strong>The</strong> Training was<br />
provided to 120 Officials in batches <strong>of</strong> 20 <strong>of</strong>ficials<br />
for a duration <strong>of</strong> <strong>10</strong> working days (2 weeks, 2½ hrs.<br />
per day).<br />
<strong>10</strong>.2.6 E-Accreditation<br />
As a major e-governance initiative, during the year<br />
NIOS introduced the Online system for submission,<br />
monitoring and grant <strong>of</strong> Accreditation for Academic/<br />
Vocational/<strong>Open</strong> Basic Education Programme. <strong>The</strong><br />
system was quite successful and during the year about<br />
80 applications were received through online mode.<br />
Provisions were made to convert the <strong>of</strong>fline application<br />
into online so that the data for accreditation was<br />
available in electronic form and all the processes right<br />
from submission <strong>of</strong> application to award <strong>of</strong><br />
accreditation was expedited online.<br />
<strong>10</strong>.2.7 On-Demand Examination extended<br />
to Regional Centre<br />
Technical provisions were made for the NIOS<br />
learners Online registration for the On-Demand<br />
Examination. Earlier the ODES was conducted only<br />
at Headquarter at NOIDA and at the Regional<br />
Centre, Pune. This facility has now been extended to<br />
all the Regional Centres <strong>of</strong> NIOS.<br />
<strong>10</strong>.2.8 Development <strong>of</strong> Question Bank for<br />
Sr.Secondary for On-Demand<br />
Examination<br />
Question banks were developed based on the new<br />
syllabus for Senior Secondary course in Hindi (301),<br />
Mathematics (311), Physics (312), Chemistry<br />
(313), Biology (314), Geography (316),<br />
Economics (318), Business Studies (319),<br />
Psychology (328). With these subjects, there were<br />
11 subjects at Sr.Secondary level in which ODE is<br />
being conducted at the NIOS Headquarter and at<br />
the Regional Centres. A handbook was also<br />
developed for the Infrastructural Requirement and<br />
Operational Management <strong>of</strong> On-Demand<br />
Examination System at Regional Centre.<br />
<strong>10</strong>.2.9 Learner Support Centre<br />
Established in collaboration with NUFPA to under<br />
the Adolescence Education Programme the LSC is<br />
the LSC was equipped with 5 Executives and 1<br />
supervisor. During the year, functioning <strong>of</strong> the Learner<br />
Support Centre was revamped in view <strong>of</strong> the large<br />
number <strong>of</strong> calls being received from the learners. <strong>The</strong><br />
system was made operational from 9.30AM to<br />
7.30PM supported by the Learner Support Executive<br />
without involving the IVRS information system. On<br />
an average, the LSC was addressing 150-200 calls<br />
per day per Executive. In addition the LSC is also<br />
responding to the 80-<strong>10</strong>0 e-mails <strong>of</strong> the learners<br />
everyday. <strong>The</strong> system is put on the IVRS from 7.30pm<br />
to 9.30am in the morning. <strong>The</strong> executive handle a<br />
wide range <strong>of</strong> queries from admission to issues and<br />
concerns <strong>of</strong> Adolescence.<br />
