12.11Academic Facilitators<br />

In order to supplement the functioning <strong>of</strong> Regional<br />

Centres and to have better interaction with the AIs,<br />

the concept <strong>of</strong> Academic Facilitation was envisaged.<br />

Such facilitation is carried out by personnel known<br />

as Academic Facilitators.<br />

During <strong>2009</strong>-<strong>10</strong>, 479 Academic Facilitators (AFs)<br />

were appointed all over the country. <strong>The</strong> AFs are<br />

retired school/college principals, senior teachers and<br />

specialists in the field <strong>of</strong> education. Region wise<br />

number <strong>of</strong> Academic Facilitators appointed is given<br />

in the Table 12.11.<br />

12.12 Meeting <strong>of</strong> the Regional Directors<br />

<strong>of</strong> NIOS<br />

<strong>The</strong> Regional Centres are field level operational arms<br />

<strong>of</strong> NIOS. From time to time meetings are conducted<br />

with the Regional Directors <strong>of</strong> the Regional Centres<br />

so that all new initiatives are communicated to them.<br />

In order to have face to face discussions between<br />

Regional Directors and Officials at NIOS<br />

Headquarters, meetings <strong>of</strong> Regional Directors <strong>of</strong><br />

NIOS was held on 13-14 November, <strong>2009</strong> and<br />

25-26 February, 20<strong>10</strong>.<br />

<strong>The</strong> important issues like Personal Contact<br />

Programme, Tutor Marked Assignment and<br />

Accreditation were discussed in detail. <strong>The</strong> Regional<br />

Directors were given opportunity to share their<br />

experience regarding the difficulties faced in<br />

functioning <strong>of</strong> NIOS Regional Centers and the support<br />

required from the Headquarters.<br />
